Fanime and Fantaisies dans le Monde des Rêves Recap!

Wow! What a weekend! I'm still in recovery, but last week in San Jose was really fun. On Saturday was the event Fantaisies dans le Monde des Rêves and Fanime. While DreamShoppe was not in official attendance, we stopped by the Magical Boutique, greeted the designers of Angelic Pretty--Maki and Asuka, met some wonderful lolitas, and did some more shopping at Fanime!

The Fantaisies dans le Monde des Rêves--AKA the Fancy French even amongst local lolitas--was great! Although things were quite delayed on Saturday, I was able to get last minute access and get to see a fun filled show including Miss EGL, a Kokusyoku Sumire concert, and a Fashion show. The Miss EGL was a first time contest that featured a Q&A and a talent show. The Q&A consisted of questions such as "What will you do for the lolita community?", "If you had a magic wand, what would be your one wish?", and "What would one thing would you wear for the rest of your life?". The three girls competing were sweet, well-dressed and answered the questions candidly. The talent portion consisted of active storytelling, singing, and a solo flute piece.

The Kokusyoku Sumire concert was definitely a treat. Kokusyoku Sumire is made up of members Sachi, a violinist, and Yuka, a soprano singer and pianist. With their mix of classical and traditional Japanese music, Kokusyoku Sumire is definitely unique. Several of their pieces performed that day where heavily influenced by Lewis Carroll's Alice Wonderland and included, "The White Queen", "Red Queen", a song written for the Burton movie, and "Mad Hatter's Party".

After the concert, tea was served and the Fashion Show commenced. Local designers Candy Violet and Sweet Rococo displayed their newest wares. Angelic Pretty also showed off their latest set of prints included Jewelry Jelly, Happy Garden, Wonder Cookie, Milky Berry and the highly anticipated Milky Planet series. Atelier Pierrot also came to the show and displayed their gorgeous corset dresses. Indie brand Chantilly also was able to show off their intricately designed clothes. The best thing was the the fact that many of these items were available for purchase that day as well!

Fanime was also loads of fun as well. I was able to stop by Pop Japan Travel's panel on Sunday, and I was able to scout out the dealer's hall and artist alley. Saturday night was also spent in the karaoke room waiting 3 hours to go up for our song! But the wait was well worth it as we were highly entertained by singers and dancers touched by the music.

Overall, quite a fun weekend and a great intro to this summer's Con season! Looking forward to AX, Yaoi-Con, PMX and more! Any events you're planning to go to this summer?

Until next time!

  1. Lovely Lolitas! The last photo made me think of my sister, Gertrude, who is a sweet Lolita fashion enthusiast. The most memorable thing about my sister is her tons of beautiful lace wigs and motown tress wigs. Gertrude's savings are usually spent in buying items for her collection of wigs.

Thanks for sharing the interesting event!
